Log in over SSH to a Vultr Cloud Compute instance with default credentials or SSH keys. OpenSSH is preinstalled.
OpenSSH is a suite of tools that implements the SSH protocol to enable SSH access to an instance. It is preinstalled and active on Vultr Cloud Compute instances by default to enable secure connections.
Follow this guide to connect to a Vultr Cloud Compute instance using SSH on your workstation.
Open your instance's management page.
Note the default credentials within the Overview tab and copy the user password to your clipboard.
Open a new terminal or command prompt application on your workstation.
Connect to your Vultr Cloud Compute instance using SSH. Replace USERNAME with the instance username and SERVER_IP with the instance's public IP address.
Enter yes and press Enter when prompted to add the instance's public key to your known hosts.
Enter your instance user's password when prompted and press Enter to log in.
View the active user in your SSH session.
The output displays your username.
Generate an SSH key on your workstation and add it to your instance during deployment. Adding an SSH key using the Vultr Console after deployment results in data loss and wipes your instance to install the new key.
Open a new terminal or command prompt application on your workstation.
Connect to your Vultr Cloud Compute instance using a specific SSH key on your workstation. Replace PRIVATE_KEY_PATH with the path to your private key, USERNAME with the instance username, and SERVER_IP with the instance's public IP address.
Enter yes and press Enter when prompted to add the instance's public key to your known hosts.
View the active user in your SSH session.
The output displays your username.
