What Is the Minimum Size Block Storage Volume I Can Deploy to a VKE Cluster?

Updated on 20 November, 2025

Minimum size requirement for deploying Block Storage volumes to Vultr Kubernetes Engine (VKE) clusters

Vultr Kubernetes Engine (VKE) supports two types of Vultr Block Storage through the Container Storage Interface (CSI):

  • Vultr Block Storage (NVMe): High-performance NVMe storage available in regions that support it. Volume sizes range from 10 GB up to 10 TB. When available, NVMe is used by default for improved I/O performance.
  • Vultr Block Storage (HDD): Standard HDD storage available in most regions. Volumes range from 40 GB up to 40 TB.

To check which storage classes are available in a specific region, use the List Regions API endpoint. The response returns:

  • block_storage_storage_opt – indicates Vultr Block Storage (HDD) availability.
  • block_storage_high_perf – indicates Vultr Block Storage (NVMe) availability.

Use this information to select the optimal storage class for your workloads based on performance and regional availability.
