Resolve Vultr MCP Server problems such as refused logins, the wrong organization, remote logins, redirects, too many tools, tool errors, and TLS inspection.
Use the following sections to resolve common problems when you connect to the Vultr Model Context Protocol (MCP) Server.
The Vultr MCP Server is in public preview. The tool surface and endpoint structure may change at general availability, so forward compatibility is not guaranteed.
If your client cannot connect, or the login is refused for every user in your organization, MCP may be disabled for the organization. An organization administrator can check the status and enable it. Follow How to Enable the MCP Server.
If MCP is enabled but one user cannot connect, the Use MCP permission policy may not be attached to that user, or to a group or role that the user belongs to. Ask an administrator to attach the policy. Follow How to Attach a Policy to a User.
Each login is tied to the organization that is selected in the Vultr Console when you click Authorize. Ask the client What Vultr account am I connected as? to see which organization you landed in. To change it, switch organizations in the Vultr Console, then log in to the MCP server again. To work with two organizations at once, add the server twice under different names and log in to each separately.
If your client runs over SSH, in a container, or anywhere without a local browser, use device authorization or an authorization code instead of a browser window. For more information, see Authentication.
The server address is https://mcp.vultr.com/mcp. If your client uses https://vultrmcp.com, replace it with https://mcp.vultr.com/mcp and log in again. The vultrmcp.com address redirects, but some clients do not follow redirects, and logins made at that address are not accepted at mcp.vultr.com.
Some clients struggle with a large number of tools, and an assistant picks the right tool more often from a shorter list. Connect to the endpoint for a single product area instead of the full list. For example, use https://mcp.vultr.com/mcp/compute for compute questions. For the full list of endpoints, see Tools.
When the Vultr API returns an error, the tool shows the API's own message.
5xx: The Vultr API had a problem. Try again later.401 or 403: Vultr refused the request.404: The resource ID does not exist in the organization that you are logged in to. Check which organization you are connected to.On a network that inspects TLS traffic, point Node.js at your company's certificate authority with the NODE_EXTRA_CA_CERTS environment variable instead of turning off certificate checks. For more information, see Client Setup.
When an administrator disables MCP, every connected session stops working immediately and no new logins are accepted. Ask an administrator whether MCP was disabled. Access also stops if it is revoked, or if you have not used the server for 30 days. In both cases, log in again.
