How Long Will My Snapshot Take To Complete?

Updated on 20 November, 2025

Explains factors affecting the time required to create or restore Vultr Snapshots, primarily disk size and system load.

The time required to create or restore a Vultr Snapshot depends primarily on the size of the instance’s disk and the current activity on the server.

For snapshot creation, the duration scales with the amount of data on disk and the I/O load of the host. Smaller instances with minimal data can complete in a few minutes, while larger instances with more data may take proportionally longer.

For restoring a snapshot, whether on an existing instance or when provisioning a new server, the process may take an additional 10–15 minutes compared to standard provisioning operations, as the system must overwrite or reconstruct the full disk image.
