Can I Attach and Mount a Vultr Block Storage Volume to a Vultr Compute Instance in a Different Region?

Updated on 15 September, 2025

Block Storage volumes can only be attached to compute instances within the same region due to infrastructure limitations.

No. Vultr Block Storage volumes are region-specific and can only be attached to instances deployed in the same region. This restriction exists because Vultr Block Storage volumes are provisioned in a single data center within the selected region, and cross-region attachment is not supported due to latency, performance, and data consistency considerations.

If you need the same data accessible in multiple regions, you can replicate it between volumes in different regions using tools like rsync or similar synchronization methods.

To mount the attached Vultr Block Storage volume on your FreeBSD, Linux, or Windows instance in the same region, follow the steps in the Mount a Block Storage Volume guide.
