Introduction

Vultr Sub-Accounts is an account management feature that lets you create, monitor, and manage multiple accounts attached to your Vultr account. Every sub-account is a standalone profile with the ability to deploy any type of resources with direct billing to your Vultr account. This allows you to set up an organizational structure that separates specific accounts while sharing your main Vultr account billing information in a parent-child formation.

  • Parent account: Your main Vultr account that inherits billing charges for all attached sub-accounts at the end of a billing cycle.
  • Child account: A Vultr sub-account with full functionality and access to all Vultr services with the ability to deploy all types of infrastructure resources. The account is directly linked to the parent account that inherits the billing charges and information.
Note
Depending on your Vultr account status, please open a support ticket to enable the Parent status for Sub-Accounts, as this feature is not enabled by default

You can use Vultr Sub-Accounts to:

  • Manage the billing information of multiple accounts using a single parent account.
  • Manage your organizational departments by creating separate user accounts that are directly linked to the parent account. This enhances your organization's security structure and lets different users deploy resources in separate accounts without conflicting with other users.
  • Personalize and monitor the billing charges of multiple accounts using real-time from linked sub-accounts.

Monitor the Account Billing Information

All sub-account charges are directly billed to your main Vultr account. By this structure, the main account inherits all charges incurred by a Vultr sub-account. You can monitor the real-time billing charges for each child account by viewing the sub-accounts list in your main Vultr account.

  • To test the billing process, access your new sub-account. Then, deploy a Vultr Cloud Server with any specification of your choice.
  1. Access the Vultr Customer Portal using your main Vultr Account.

  2. Navigate to the Sub-Accounts page.

  3. Verify your target Vultr sub-account billing information:

    • Balance: Represents the sub-account billing balance. For new accounts adopted from your account, the balance value is ZERO. A positive balance means that a payment has previously been made directly to the account to cover pending charges. A negative balance represents pre-existing charges incurred by the sub-account before adoption by your main Vultr account.
    • Pending Charges: The real-time sub-account billing charges that will be rolled up and covered by your main Vultr account at the end of each billing cycle. For example, if the sub-account user deploys a new cloud server, the real-time usage costs display in the Pending Charges section. These charges are directly billed to your main Vultr account at the end of each billing cycle.

Note: Your Vultr sub-account billing information updates whenever new charges are incurred by the account. To set up billing limits for each sub-account, please contact Vultr Support.
