Can I Continue Using ACLs After IAM Is Enabled?

Updated on 13 April, 2026

Find out if existing ACL-based access controls continue to work after Vultr IAM is enabled. ACLs remain functional alongside IAM during the transition period.

Yes, for now. Enabling IAM does not remove or disable the ACL interface immediately. Existing ACL-based enforcement continues to function with no regressions, and your users retain exactly the same effective access they had before IAM was enabled.

The ACL interface is being preserved deliberately to ensure continuity, a safe migration path, and no disruption to existing workflows. However, IAM policies will replace ACLs entirely in the long term. Transitioning to IAM-native access management through roles, groups, and permission policies at your own pace is recommended to prepare for this.
