How Do I View a User's Effective Access?

Learn how to view the combined effective permissions for a user in Vultr IAM. See all access granted through direct policies, group memberships, and roles.

To view a user's effective access, navigate to [Your Organization] > Users > [Target User] in the Vultr Console. The user detail page is organized into the following sections:

  • Details — displays the user's name, email address, account status, API access status, and user UUID.
  • Groups — lists all groups the user belongs to, along with the roles inherited through each group membership.
  • Roles — lists all roles directly assigned to the user, their type (assignable or assumable), and the source of the attachment.
  • API Access — lists all API keys associated with the user, including key name and expiration status, along with IP allowlist configuration for API access control.

You can also retrieve a list of users associated with specific roles and permission policies using either the Vultr Console or the Vultr API. This allows you to audit access, verify role and policy assignments, and ensure that permissions are correctly applied across your organization.
