Do I Need to Manually Migrate From ACLs to IAM?

Updated on 13 April, 2026

Learn whether manual migration from ACLs to IAM is required on Vultr. Existing ACL permissions are automatically mapped to equivalent IAM policies for you.

No. The migration from ACLs to IAM is handled automatically by Vultr in the background. Vultr maps each of your existing ACL entries to an equivalent Vultr-managed permission policy and assigns them automatically. Your users retain exactly the same effective access they had before IAM was enabled.

The transition is designed to be seamless and non-breaking. Existing workflows, API integrations, and platform tooling continue to function without any reconfiguration. For a detailed breakdown of how each legacy ACL maps to its corresponding IAM permission, see What Happens to My Existing ACL-Based Access When IAM Is Enabled?.
