Can I Add an Old Vultr Compute Instance to a VPC Without Changing Its IP Address?

Updated on 15 September, 2025

Explains how to add existing Vultr Compute instances to a VPC network without changing their public IP addresses

Yes, you can add an existing Vultr Compute instance to a VPC network without changing its public IP address. By default, Compute instances are not attached to any VPC and must be manually added to one. Attaching a Compute instance to a VPC only assigns a private IP address within the VPC range—it does not modify the instance's public IPv4 or IPv6 addresses.

If your instance is already in use with public-facing services or DNS records, no changes are required after VPC assignment.
