Can I Create Replica Nodes in a Different Vultr Location from Where My Cluster Is Deployed?

Updated on 15 September, 2025

Explanation of whether PostgreSQL replica nodes can be deployed in different Vultr locations from the primary cluster

Vultr Managed Databases allow you to create read-only replica nodes in regions different from your cluster’s primary node. This enables geographic distribution of read traffic, reduces latency for users in other regions, and adds an extra layer of redundancy.

Vultr offers 32 global regions, allowing you to place replica nodes closer to your users or other infrastructure for optimal performance. To create a replica in a different location, navigate to your cluster’s Overview page in the Vultr Customer Portal, select Add Read-Only Replica Node from the Actions menu, choose the desired region, and configure the server specifications. The replica node will automatically synchronize with the primary node and remain up-to-date with all changes.
