To scale a Vultr Managed Database cluster, navigate to your cluster’s Settings tab in the Vultr Customer Portal and select Change Plan from the left-hand menu. This allows you to increase your cluster’s resources, such as CPU, memory, and storage, to meet higher performance demands.

Scaling down an existing cluster is not supported. If you need a smaller cluster, you can either:

  • Migrate your data to a new cluster with the desired configuration using the Migration tab on your cluster’s management page.
  • Fork the existing cluster to create a new instance with a different size or configuration via the Fork Database Cluster option in the Actions menu.
Note
Migration and forking options are not available for Apache Kafka® clusters. These actions are supported only for MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Valkey clusters.

For step-by-step instructions and engine-specific details on scaling, refer to the dedicated guides for MySQL, PostgreSQL, Valkey, and Apache Kafka®.
