Does Vultr Provide BGP Sessions?

Updated on 20 November, 2025

Vultr offers BGP sessions for customers to establish dynamic routing between their networks and Vultr's infrastructure.

Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) is the standard for inter-domain routing on the internet, enabling autonomous systems (AS) to exchange reachability information for IP prefixes. Vultr supports BGP in two scenarios:

  • If you operate your own IP address space registered with a Regional Internet Registry (RIR) and associated with an AS number, you can establish a BGP session with Vultr to advertise your prefixes.
  • If you do not have your own IP space, Vultr can also provide BGP sessions using IP prefixes that are allocated directly by Vultr.

In either configuration, peering with Vultr over BGP integrates your routes into Vultr’s global routing fabric. This supports use cases such as provider independence, leveraging existing allocations, and advanced routing strategies. To enable BGP access for your account, see the How to Request BGP Access guide.
