Why Is There a Small Charge After Adding My Credit Card?

Updated on 15 September, 2025

Explains the temporary authorization hold placed on credit cards when added to Vultr accounts for verification purposes.

When you link a credit card to your Vultr account, you may notice a small temporary charge. This is not an actual charge, but a standard authorization hold used to verify that the card is valid and active.

Vultr does not debit your account for this amount. The hold is automatically released by your financial institution (such as your bank or credit card provider), usually within a few business days, depending on their policies.

Note

Authorization holds are commonly used in online services for fraud prevention and card validation purposes. If the charge does not disappear after several days, we recommend contacting your card issuer.
