Why Was My Credit Card Declined?

Updated on 15 September, 2025

Explains common reasons for credit card declines when purchasing Vultr services and troubleshooting steps to resolve payment issues.

Credit card declines can happen for a variety of reasons, and the issuing bank often does not provide specific error codes to merchants. In some cases, a card may work for general purchases but fail for certain types of online or international transactions.

If your card was declined:

  • Contact your bank or card issuer directly to determine the reason. They can provide the most accurate and detailed explanation for the decline.
  • Ensure your card supports online and international transactions, as Vultr charges in USD and operates globally.
  • Confirm that your card has sufficient available credit and is not blocked for recurring or high-risk merchant activity.

As an alternative, you can retry the transaction using another supported payment method such as PayPal, or add a different credit or debit card to your account.
