Why Do I See an Unexpected Charge on My Invoice?

Updated on 15 September, 2025

Explains why unexpected charges may appear on your Vultr invoice and how to review your billing history for clarification.

If you notice a charge you weren’t expecting on your invoice, start by reviewing your account’s Billing History. Your invoice reflects all active services, usage-based charges, and any applicable taxes or fees.

Common reasons for unexpected charges include:

  • Running services: Charges continue to apply to active instances, storage volumes, load balancers, and other resources, even if they’re not in use unless destroyed.
  • Hourly billing: Usage-based services are billed hourly and accumulate charges based on uptime and resource consumption.
  • Bandwidth overage: If you exceed your plan’s monthly bandwidth allowance, overage fees are applied.

To help investigate, you can download your invoice in PDF or CSV format for a detailed breakdown of services. If you still have questions, open a support ticket for further assistance.
