How Do I Clone or Make a Copy of a Vultr Compute Instance?

A guide explaining how to duplicate or create an exact copy of a Vultr Compute Instance

Steps to Clone an Instance:

  1. Create a snapshot of the source instance from the Vultr Customer Portal.

  2. Deploy a new instance using the snapshot. This new instance will be an exact copy of the original at the time the snapshot was taken.

    Note
    You cannot deploy a snapshot to an instance size with a smaller disk than the original.

  3. Update DNS records. The cloned instance receives a new public IP address. If you're using a domain name with the original instance, update its DNS records to point to the new IP.
